The Richest Black People in the World

Most of the richest black people have made it big in Africa and only a few reside in the United States. Most of those who made their wealth in Africa are from Nigeria, a country that is considered to have high poverty levels. This is a list of the wealthiest black people starting with the richest:

Aliko Dangote

Aliko Dangote is the richest man in Africa whose wealth amounts to $14.1`billion. He acquired his wealth through the sale of Cement where he is able to produce 44 million metric tons of cement each year. He is also a dominating sugar trader in his country. It seems that Dangote comes from a well to do family as his great-grandfather was the richest man in Africa when he was alive.

Mike Adenuga

Mike Adenuga is the second richest black man who has $5.4 billion to his name. Mike is from Nigeria and worked as a cab driver when he was undertaking his MBA at Pace University. He later started selling lace and distributing soft drinks and from this business, he earned his first million. He is a proud owner of the 2nd largest mobile provider in his money country Nigeria and also owns some profitable oil firms.

Robert Smith

Robert Smith is worth $4.4 billion which he made in venture capital. There seems to be a lot of doubts in regards to the source of Robert Smith’s wealth as very little is known about him. There is doubt if his real name is Robert Smith.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is worth $2.7 billion and is currently the 4th richest black person. She is involved in a lot of money-making activities but most of what she owns today was acquired when she worked as a television host.

Isabel dos Santos

She is the 5th richest black person and regards as an independent-minded businesswoman who stands for her personal interests. Her wealth was passed on to her by her father before he stepped down as the president of Angola. The total wealth in her name amounts to $2.6 billion.

Patrice Motsepe

Patrice Motsepe comes from South Africa and to acquire the massive wealth, he purchased a no-so –productive gold mine and transformed it into a profitable venture. He was the first black person to become a billionaire in 2008. He has an equity firm and a soccer club which also earns him considerable income.
